What Can a Blog Be Used For?
In my children's literature class we discussed the importance of talking about books while you are reading or when you just get done reading them. Most of the time as adults we do not read a book and then go and make a shoe box diagram of what we just read, rather we go and find someone who we can talk to about the book. Student's minds think the same way a lot of times and it is important that they have the chance to discuss a book that they have enjoyed, or maybe not enjoyed. I know we wrote about The Girl with the Brown Crayon in our blogs, but I can in vision an on going blog, all on the same page with the students ideas and thoughts about their own books written in it. They can share their ideas and thoughts about books read as a class or even about books they are reading at home, this could give other students ideas as to what is out there to read. I find that having all these different pages can get kind of confusing and it is hard to keep up with all the different topics. I do not know a lot about technology but I know there are different ways to have a blog, I would find a different way for my class, but this blog that we have started has given many ideas for my future classroom.

Sarah, you really pointed out a lot of great points and gave great ideas. Like you, I am not that familiar with a lot of technology but I can say since college I have been given the opportunity to familiarize myself with the variety of things that are out there. I really think your idea of having an ongoing blog for the students is great and they can learn a lot from that. I also concur that this blog has given us many ideas for our future classroom. During Tuesday Experience this week, my teacher had the Smart Board in her classroom and did a presentation to the children using power point. I was VERY excited to see how to use it since I was never given the opportunity to do so. I fell in love with it and can't believe just how much technology can be in the classroom!
I am glad that you have been able to see a smart board in action!! maybe you will have to teach me how to use one because I do not have one in my classroom at whiting lane. I am sure by the time we are teachers there will be one in every classroom! Fortunately, I love technology and I love learning how new things work.
I believe that students should be able to know how to use all of this technology. I almost think that is harder to update yourself when you are older. If you start learning how to use the internet and other technological resources you will be in better shape when you begin to do research papers. Like Christina I also have a smartboard in my classroom and have had some opportunities to use it. You need to be very careful when you are writing on it and it definately takes some getting use to. The first time I wrote on the one in my classroom I looked at my writting and could not believe how bad it actually looked compared to my usual writing on a white board.
